Summer Sweatpants School

Sweatpants School is a virtual campus where advanced students and professionals gather to perform regularly for each other, to gain insight through lecture masterclasses, to engage in discussion, and to share encouragement. Sweatpants participants connect with each other and work together as they strive to meet their goals. If you’re looking for challenge and structure this summer, for community and performance experience, and for individualized learning through private lessons and coaching, you’ve come to the right place.

Even if you have other obligations this summer, Sweatpants School is designed as a flexible option that can work with a variety of schedules. All live classes are recorded and uploaded to the private Sweatpants School site, where as a member, you can view them at your convenience. Regular attendance is encouraged, but not mandatory.

Monthly Membership:

• One private one-hour lesson

  • Access my private lesson scheduler and pick a time that works best for you

  • Schedule additional lessons at a special reduced cost of $100/hr (regularly $150)

• At least FOUR live 90-minute studio classes

  • Class times vary in order to accommodate participants’ schedules. Most classes are held on Sunday evenings at 7:30 pm EST and Mondays at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. EST. All classes will be recorded and uploaded to a members-only section of my website, where you'll have access to view them anytime for the remainder of the calendar year.

  • Students will have the opportunity to perform, to share feedback with each other, and to take part in lecture masterclasses from Micah and other special guests on subjects like performance psychology, audition training, artistry & fundamentals. Every effort will be made to allow interested students as many performance opportunities as possible. A survey will be sent out each month for students to submit their performance class preferences. Live attendance in every class is not mandatory, but students are encouraged to participate in as many live sessions as schedules allow.

  • Students are encouraged to upload videos for feedback from fellow Sweatpants Students and myself. There are weekly challenges for short video uploads and other posts. If you are unable to perform in a particular class, but you still want to perform that week’s material, upload your performance video to this page!

Tuition:

• $250 monthly; or

• $699 full summer course, due before 6/1 (save $51!)

FAQ:

What are the other students like?

Course participants come from a variety of backgrounds. Some are working professional trumpet players who are looking to improve their skills and advance their careers. Some are current graduate and advanced undergraduate students looking for an augmentation to their studies. Some are out of school and hungry for professional audition season to open back up again. And some are avocational and retired trumpet players looking for challenge and community. When else do you get to rub shoulders with such a variety of trumpet players? There’s so much to learn from everyone.

How do I schedule private lessons?

I post my availability on my virtual lesson scheduler, and you can schedule directly on that page. If your schedule doesn’t work with any of the available times, let me know and we can work something out. Extra lessons are available at a discounted rate of $100/each.

What if I can’t make all the classes?

No problem! All classes are conducted via Zoom and uploaded to the private Sweatpants School section of my website, where you can watch them at your convenience.

What kind of equipment do I need to participate?

I highly recommend a reliable and fast internet connection, a computer or device that can log into Zoom, and an external microphone for improved audio. And a trumpet, of course!

What is the Orchestral Intensive?

The Orchestral Intensive is an optional add-on to the Summer Sweatpants School. In addition to all the Sweatpants School classes and lessons, participants in the Orchestral Intensive will get 2 extra lessons per month, orchestra rep studio classes, and focused audition training, including mock auditions. The cost for the Orchestral Intensive is an additional $300 per month. Contact me for more info.
